By Dewi Wilson, from the March 2013 Aptitudes, the newsletter of the Atlanta Prime Timers

This month, something a little different. Ken Anderson, the Prime Timer whose novel Sea Change has recently appeared, graciously agreed to answer a few questions I asked him about the book and related subjects. I hope you enjoy the Q&A.

Members of Prime Timers / Vintage Men of Melbourne, Australia enjoy a picnic at Point Ormond this summer. (Remember, it’s summer ‘Down Under’ now— they are having great weather while we are digging our from snow storms!)

We just booked on Celebrity Infinity, our favorite cruise line, a full transit Panama Canal trip from San Diego to Miami. This all inclusive (taxes, port charges, air fare, hotel, transfers and bus home) 17 day-journey begins with your flight from Florida to San Diego. That night will be spent in a hotel before boarding our ship the next day.  How exciting can this be: the Mexican Riviera with the ports of Cabo San Lucas, Puerto Vallarta, Puerto Quetzal, Guatemala, Punta Arenas, Costa Rica, full canal transit from the Pacific to the Atlantic, with additional ports of Colon, Panama and Cartagena, Columbia before docking in Miami, Florida.

President's Day Weekend, Feb. 15-18, 2013.  It is great to see all your friends from around North America gather at the annual Labor Day Weekend. But in the middle of winter, when it might be sunny and 70° and it might be 20° and snowy, whatchagonnado? How about a party?  Central Oklahoma Prime Timers invite you to their second Mid-Winter Rendezvous over Presidents’ Day Weekend in February (Feb. 15-18, 2013). We are inviting all our Labor Day friends and members of Prime Timers to join us.

About 45 men from Iowa gathered at the home of Tom and Josh for a delightful Christmas Party.  The Prime Timers of Central Iowa chapter formed in September of 2012 and we are seeing a great deal of interest. One of the challenges of a new chapter is educating the LGBT community about Prime Timers and how it differs from other organizations. We started with a nice brochure and a Facebook page. We have found it important to stress that PTCI is affiliated with a much larger community of gay/bisexual men, Prime Timers World Wide.

Atlanta Prime Timer Danny Ingram is the national president of American Veterans for Equal Rights (AVER). The organization started in 1990, and is the nation’s only LGBT veteran service organization or VSO.  During Danny’s four years as president, AVER has worked to expand its services, from helping veterans find jobs and deal with PTSD, to helping LGBT veterans that were thrown out of the service for being gay get their discharges upgraded.
