Lavender Magazine in the Twin Cities of Minneapolis and St. Paul, honored the MSP Prime Timers with a community award in October. The magazine noted in the award that “although being non-political, [Prime Timers MSP} is concerned with social issues that affect older gay and bisexual men. The members come together for the comradeship – the social aspect helping a generation that was afraid to come out of the closet.”

We are Chicago Prime Timers and we are excited to be hosting the Prime Timers Midwest Regional Event, July 17-20, 2014. The Chicago club is 35 years old and has 276 active members. We love our city and we especially love sharing our city.

Come enjoy “The Windy City,” Prime Timers style! You’ll meet new friends, greet old friends from across the nation, and maybe find your soul-mate here in“ the town that Billy Sunday could not shut down” (according to the song).

The members of Prime Timers - Central Virginia enjoyed a very special General Meeting for October.  Our guest speaker for this meeting was Judge Tracy Thorne-Begland, Virginia's first openly gay man who was appointed as a judge to Richmond's General District Court in January. Tracey Thorne-Begland and his partner, Michael Thorne-Begland have a pair of 8 year old twins, one boy and one girl. We had a large turnout, almost 100 members, for his talk and an elegant and delicious reception following.

The Miami Valley Ohio Prime Timers in Dayton, Ohio, held their 3rd Annual Pig Roast on August 18, 2013, at a local Metro Park with approximately 120 attendees enjoying professionally prepared pulled pork from a whole hog cut up on a table right at the site. The afternoon included games like corn hole, conversation, food like homemade potato salad and cole slaw, tea, lemonade, and other beverages.

Here we are at the Medicare ‘Open Season.’ Starting October 15, and continuing through December 7, all people with Medicare can change their Medicare health plan and prescription drug coverage for 2014. Although I’ve been happy with the Medicare coverage I’ve had for the past two years, I thought this would be a good time to review my coverage to see if it still worked for me.

For 2013, my Medicare parts A and B and my Medicare Supplement plan F together cost me $2,852. After a few calculations, I found that if I had only original Medicare, I could have saved just over $1,000.

Bowling His Age

Some guys in Fort Lauderdale look at our calendar, get the impression that an organization heavy into sports activities must be made up of young jocks. Well, the jock part would be right. Pictured here is their oldest bowler. He’s 93 year old Jim Baker. He comes every week and bowls with his partner, Mike Webb and the group. He has said that his goal each week is to bowl at least his age.

Norfolk celebrated Gay Pride with it's annual Out In the Park festival. PTWW provided over a hundred copies of recent newsletters to hand out to promote the chapter. Bill Zimmerman, the Treasurer of Tidewater Prime Timers (Norfolk, VA) reported “We gave away just about all the literature and we'll see if that generates some new members. It certainly did last year.”

Bill continued, “It was HOT and very humid but we had a swell time. A rain storm broke up the party at 5pm, sending us running for shelter. Shortly afterward, the sun reappeared and look what everyone saw. The left side of the rainbow is hovering over our Botetourt Street house.”
