Scam Alert!

Published in: Click to show all news |

There are many scams from people who are trying to get our money. A year ago, Prime Timers Worldwide was one such victim. Three attempts were made to scam us this year alone, and two of those occurred during the same morning recently.

Let's face it ... we all have "stuff". That "stuff" can range from real estate, to bank accounts, to stocks and bonds, to pensions, to jewelry, to clothes, to artwork and so on. Moreover, when we pass, we all want our "stuff" to go to whom we want it to go to ... not to someone chosen by the State. There are several ways to convey your "stuff" to those you want to get it. There is no "best way for all" to accomplish that goal. But some ways may be better than others. For example, putting your cash under your pillow with a note saying, "This goes to X" is probably not the best way to get your cash to X. Rather the better solution is to execute one of the many testamentary documents, all of which tell others to whom you want your "stuff" to go to and who you want to do it. Then your goals are accomplished. This article will concern about some of the testamentary methods available to you.

Prime Timers of DC

Our club of 114 members continues to be active and sponsors well attended events. The membership is almost equally divided among Virginia, Maryland, and the District of Columbia. We have 19 couples (some with non-member partners) and the rest are single/widowed/divorced. Our oldest active member, Jack, had his 91st birthday in August.

The Tidewater chapter chose to celebrate its 20th anniversary on September 16th at M.J.'s Tavern in Norfolk, VA. The place was jam packed with over 50 members having a great meal together. That was made possible by the recent gift to each of our active chapters from the will of founder Woody Baldwin. After some opening remarks by President Jimmy Luttrell, Gary Copeland, former Director-at-Large of Prime Timers Worldwide and a founder of the Tidewater chapter presented the chapter charter. After lunch, our speaker, Dr. Loren Olson, spoke to us on how sex gets better with age. It was an outstanding talk with lots of remarks that brought laughter and some sad memories to each of our members. This was followed by traditional cake that is used to celebrate the birthdays of our members.
