The LGBT Community Center of the Desert, in Palm Springs, will give their 2012 Founders Award to Prime Timers Founder Woody Baldwin on November 1 at the Palm Springs Convention Center. In their letter inviting Woody to the annual gala, Executive Director John O’Connor says:

“Woody, your leadership and accomplishments over the years have been an inspiration for us all. Your legacy of founding the Prime Timers at age 67 is an astonishing example for the world of vibrant accomplishment by a gay senior man. In cities around the country – and around the world – older adult gay men who might otherwise be isolated and lonely have a social outlet for connecting with peers. Sticking with our vision for an organization for older gay men to enjoy one another’s company required perseverance. Reaching the people who needed it the most took tenacity and years of commitment to get the word out. You stuck to your dream and the lasting legacy of the Prime Timers bringing people together is achieved.”

The Center was founded by members of the Prime Timers of the Desert taking the opportunity to be involved in their community. It was through their work, and their care for one another on a community level, that the Center was born.

In addition to honoring individuals in the LGBT community, the annual gala is a fund raising effort to support the wide variety of programs of The Center. Go to to see the programs they offer. If you are interested in attending the gala, tickets go on sale online on September 15.
