There was nothing unlucky about the number 13, when on Monday, August 13th, 8 adventurous Prime Timer men boarded the B.C. ferries to beautiful Bowen Island. The air was a little smoky from the forest fires but not enough to hamper our 3rd Day-Trip Adventure of the summer.

After arriving on the island we split up for individual preference activities. Five of us went on the usual forest hike, cutting off through 'the meadow' for an abbreviated version. The stroll was leisurely, stopping for photos of the magnificent forest vistas and blackberry picking. We discovered a new "off Leash" park for dog owners and passed the most canines we've ever seen on this walk. Everyone was friendly and added fun to our 75 minute hike. We finished up by visiting the Dick Snater Memorial in the Memorial Garden – one of the purposes of the Bowen Island destination each year. John Smith had gone on his own hike, climbing the demanding trail up to the Snug Cove lookout point. He said it was well worth it despite the hazy view upon arriving at the top. Then it was lunch time and we all opted for the over-stuffed hot dogs and hamburgers. Ice cream finished off the menu. We retuned on the 3:15 ferry to Horseshoe Bay with the unanimous decision it was one of the best Bowen Island trips ever.
